Temple Fair
Temple fair is a folk festival evolved from religion activities. There were 10 plus temple fairs in ancient Kunming. The major current temple fairs include the temple fair held in Golden Palace on the ninth day of the first Lunar Month, and the temple fair held in Mount Xishan on third day of the third Lunar Month. Then, the troupes of lion lantern, songs and dances, acrobatics, and antiphonal singing gather to perform. With thousands of people watching the performances, the temple fairs have become large-scale folk recreational activities of Kunming

Yunnan Opera
Yunnan Opera is one kind of local operas in Yunnan. Integrating the various operas introduced to Kunming in Qianlong Period of the Qing Dynasty, it is a new opera of Yunnan features. The operatic tunes are resounding, mellow and full, and the stage properties and characters are complete. The main characters include young man, bearded male characters, and male characters with painted faces etc. And the lines are read in local dialect. Predominated by wooden clapper, Xipi and Erhuang, the music integrates the three systems of “strings”, “huqin” (Chinese violin) and “Xiangyang”. In Guangxu Period of the Qing Dynasty, Yunnan Opera was spread to the counties from Kunming. By the time of the Republic of China, it had been popularized in the whole province. Integrating Romanism and Realism, and stressing Romanism, Yunnan Opera reflects the life through stylized performance. Putting special emphasis on singing, dancing and rhythm, it is a comprehensive type of arts.

Yunnan Chess
Yunnan Chess was originally produced in ancient Yongchang (current Baoshan) of Yunnan Province, so it is also called “Yongzi” It is made of red lead powder and borax through metallurgy, found and polishing. In the Ming and Qing Dynasty, “Yongzi” was listed as articles of tribute. Nowadays, to meet the ever-increasing cultural demands of people, Yunnan Chess is manufactured through mechanization and half-mechanization, exceeding “Yongzi” in quality, appearance, color, and intensity. When visiting Japan, Chinese delegations of Go have taken Yunnan Chess as presents for several times. Overseas guests from Japan and many other countries traveling to Kunming also like to buy Yunnan Chess for commemoration. When the Queen of Great Britain paid a visit to Kunming, Yunnan Provincial Government presented her a set of Yunnn Chess.
